2019年中国(北京)国际瑜伽健身用品展，我们有幸采访了西班牙，体育用品公司JOWY 集团的产品总设计师兼总裁Mr. JOS GALLEGO先生，他同时是一个二十多年的资深瑜伽爱好者，他对如何选择一条好的瑜伽垫，有着他一个独特的看法。以下是沟通实录。
Q: How to choose a right Yoga mat?

JOS(Jowy):As you know, I have been practicing yoga for over twenty years. I have used a variety of yoga mats from the initial 10mm NBR to 6mm PVC mat, 6mm TPE and the current 1.5mm rubber mat. I think NBR,PVC, TPE and Rubber, Just consider the material, If they are the Environmentally friendly material, all of them are ok. If you are the beginner, you could choose 10-15 mm NBR Mat or 6-8mm PVC/TPE mat. If you practice over 1 year, you could choose 4-5mm PVC/TPE mat. If you are the expert, you could choose 1.5-4mm rubber mat.

Q: Do you know what kind of yoga mat is more popular in Europe and USA? And what is the market share for NBR /TPE/ PVC/Rubber Mat?

JOS(Jowy): 10 years ago, the more popular are PVC and NBR, PVC have around 60% share, NBR have 25%, Other materials just share 15%. Now, TPE, It also have the good market share, as We research, PVC 35%, TPE 25%, NBR 20%, Rubber have 10%, The others have 10%;

Q: You could see from International Yoga Exhibition, here only a few suppliers offer NBR and PVC yoga mat, but I saw your catalogue, here still is selling PVC and NBR product，What is the reason?

JOS(Jowy):Yes, you are right, in China, only a few suppliers sell PVC and NBR Mat. I talked with some friends about this issue. They think one of important reason there aren’t the standard rules on Yoga mat in China. Some factories make their mats with the bad material, so there are a lot of bad quality mats, such as they use the recycled material, Those mats have the Migration of Certain Element, Such as Pb,Sb,As,Ba,Cd,Cr,Hg,Se and Formamide and so on. All of those element could bring the health problem. Of cause, only a few factories work as that way, but those factories kill the market of PVC and NBR. In fact, except for PVC and NBR, Rubber material, here also have the similar problem, some factories use the Recycled rubber, they take from abandoned old tires. This is a problem in yoga mat，It is hard to settle this problem in short time. Luckily, for us, we have no this problem, our clients know our Jowy product with Environmentally friendly material, All product could pass European rule, So our client could purchase our PVC,NBR,TPE and Rubber mats confidently.

Q: I don’t find you talk about TPE mat, do you think TPE mat is better? If all of materials are same, how to make decision to choose the material? And if the learner have selected the material, how to select the mats from a lot of brands?

JOS(Jowy): No, No, TPE mat have the similar problem too, so you must choose a mat with environmentally friendly material. About the material to choose, I mean you should choose the yoga mat with your personal situation. Such as your budget. with the same size of Mat, the rubber mat is more expensive than TPE，and TPE mat is more expensive than NBR and PVC. After you selected the material, you could check what is the weight of mat from the different brands, for a example, Jowy’s PU Rubber mat, 1830*680*5mm，the weight is over 3.5KG, but some brands, It is less than 3 KG. The other sample, 1730*610*6mm PVC yoga mat, the weight of Jowy Mat is over 1250 gram, but some brand is only 600 gram. With that gram, It can’t protect you well.

Q: Except the material, how about the size of Yoga mat? And what is the important factor to select Yoga mat?

JOS(Jowy): If the size is over 1730 * 610mm. there should no problem for any yoga learner. Too large size is not convenient to be carried and laid flat for the user. An important factor of mat is the anti-slip function, which should have a very strong friction. The learner finish all actions on the yoga mat, If anti-slip function can’t not reach the requirement, It is easy to hurt the learner herself. For a sample, Jowy long micro suede Rubber/ PU Rubber mat, we use the special design on the surface and bottom, we take T pattern on the bottom, It increases anti-slip function, and at the surface, we use the long Micro suede material or PU material, It also increase anti-slip function. Specially, after you practice yoga, maybe here have some sweat, with our special Long Micro suede surface or PU surface the mats will have the more strong anti-slip function. It will bring the safe and comfortable for the learner.
